The Fire Officers Guide to Emergency Response takes a signature approach to defining firefighter duty assignments. As career firefighters we know how important it is to use effective radio communications at the scene of a fire and that's why we saw the need to incorporate unique radio signatures (identifiers) that tie pre-incident assignments (duties) to tool assignments (tools) for each firefighter assigned to a given unit. Emergency Response Systems designed a guide that resolves the problem of using single position riding assignments to assign individual firefighters to job duties and tool assignments. We discovered that Alarm Assignments, which can
number from as little as 20 or 30 in rural jurisdictions to over 100 in a major
metropolitan areas, are the determining factor for assigning individual job duties and tool assignments to firefighters - job duties and tool assignments that are often overlooked in SOP's and SOG's.
